A few months ago, I was lucky enough to be asked to review Nutribuddy’s breakfast shakes.
I’ve previously tried various weight loss and protein shakes pre-pregnancy and to be honest, I’ve never really been a fan. The fact that Nutribuddy’s breakfast shake is advertised as weight loss wasn’t really something that I was too bothered about as having not long had a baby, I didn’t expect a magical cure to shift the extra pounds I’m carrying. My husband is a clinician by background and also studied diet and nutrition at university and so he’d already warned me that there is no quick fix and that eating a balanced diet is the most sensible way to lose weight particularly whilst I’m still breastfeeding our little boy.
However, what I now struggle with since having our little one is time! I’m so time poor and whilst it’s no excuse, running around after an 8 month old means that very often, my hydration and eating as well as simple things like remembering to empty my own bladder go out the window! As I say, it’s no excuse and as my good friend reminded me, you can’t pour from an empty cup! Thats why, when Nutribuddy asked me to review their breakfast shakes, I thought it would be a great way to start my day off in a healthy and nutritious way.
The shake is a nutritious blend of gluten-free oats, seeds and coconut as has the same nutritional value as a bowl of jumbo oats and seeds but its fine blend means that you can mix it with milk of your choice in a shake bottle and have your breakfast on the go! Something that means I can actually have breakfast whilst I’m doing the million-and-one things I need to do in the morning that mean I don’t get chance to sit down with a cuppa and a slice of toast!
I had a 14 day supply and opted for the vanilla flavour and I have to say, it was so tasty! I used coconut milk in mine as at the time of trialling this, we were also dairy free to see if it helped my little man’s eczema. The product is a clean formula, chemical-free, contains gluten-free oats and is vegan. The packaging is eco-friendly as it comes with a glass jar for storage and a reusable plastic shaker. They do 3 different flavours – chocolate, vanilla and strawberry and each comes in two consistencies – smooth or crunchy. The nutritional values can be found below. The smooth vanilla came in at just 119 calories per 30g serving and with the coconut milk which was 14 calories per 100ml this gave me a breakfast of 154 calories total – less than a slice of toast with butter and definitely more filling.
So would I recommend?
As I say, I don’t really buy into these miracle weight loss cures and the thing is with switching to a breakfast shake is that you’re consuming less calories and so it makes sense that you’ll lose weight. I did lose around 4-5lb during the time I was using the shakes but I had also completely cut our dairy from my diet too. So yes, I would recommend this product more so for the busy mum or person on the go who often skips breakfast. It is so convenient – one scoop and add your milk and you can shake it whilst you’re running out the door to catch the train or feeding your baby with one hand and drinking your shake with the other.
Taste – the product does taste nice however avoid crunching the chia seeds as they have quite a bitter taste!
Value for money – a 14 day supply is £12.99 for a one-off purchase £11.04 if you subscribe to a 3 month supply (plus you get a free gift!). If you need the shaker, it’s a little pricey at £7.99 – you could probably find one cheaper on amazon but this one is lovely and comes with the shaker ball. The glass jar is also a bargain at £2.99 and perfectly fits the 14 day supply.
Overall rating – the shake itself I would give 5 out of 5!
I will have a discount code coming soon so will share that with you as soon as it’s live!
