Hi I’m Tasha, I’m in my 30s and live in Surrey with my husband and our two children. Back in March 2019, I set up The Surrey Mumma initially as a ‘mum blog’ but it has since morphed into an honest motherhood, lifestyle and family life hub which also hosts The Clumsy Explorer e-magazine.
Originally from the Cotswolds, we moved to Surrey in 2017 for work (we both work in the health service) and since then, life has changed quite considerably. We’ve become parents to two amazing children, got married, moved house several times, changed jobs and generally been really quite busy since the little people came along.
Since having the children, I’ve turned my passion for photography and writing into a more proactive venture and in August 2019, I launched The Clumsy Explorer – an e-magazine focusing on lifestyle, family life, slow-living and exploring Surrey and beyond. The magazine has produced four issues with features from some incredible people. It’s in a bit of hiatus at the moment but I am hoping to relaunch next year with more features on Surrey life, local businesses and coaching tips.
Becoming a mother has been one of the greatest adventures I have experienced, but it’s not been without it’s challenges. One of the things I really wanted this blog to share was the honest, chocolate-smeared, caffeine-fuelled side of parenting. All too often, you’re met with conflicting advice, judgemental opinions and glossy images of other people doing it ‘better than you’ – but the truth is, everyone has their own battles, and it’s important to sift through these glossy images that are shared (particularly on social media) and to really believe in your own abilities as a parent. They say it takes a village to raise a child, but if that village is heavily filtered and pinterest-perfect, it can often feel like you’re the only one finding it hard. Throw into the mix returning to work or falling pregnant again quite quickly and before long, you start to feel emotional and physical burnout.
What you’ll hopefully experience from both The Surrey Mumma blog and in The Clumsy Explorer magazine, are real-life accounts from people of how they juggle everything – there are tried and tested tips, articles from experts on a range of useful parenting topics and a whole lot of fun thrown in. After all, parenting shouldn’t be hard or stressful all the time. It’s also one of the most fun and exhilarating adventures you’ll ever go on!
So grab a coffee (lets try to drink it hot!), get comfy and enjoy taking some much needed me-time.
